"While abacus is great for math, it's got so many more benefits than that"
I think one of the greatest benefits we’ve seen is a rise in confidence. My son is already fairly confident, but with the way the program is structured, you’ve got these incremental new skills that you're learning on a weekly basis, and because you have to learn something new every week, they get this feeling of accomplishment. It gives them the confidence of knowing that they can do this later in life. And I think that while abacus is great for math, it's got so many more benefits than that. Many more.
When I compare this to my background, which is in sports, they talk about how when you learn a new motor pattern or a skill which involves the brain, if you learn it at an age before you reach your growth spurt, you’re more likely to reach a higher level than you ever could. If you don’t learn it until after that growth spurt, it’s too late. I think there’s probably a close link with abacus as well, so sooner is better!
Also, the computer-based version of the abacus program is quite stimulating for my son and he enjoys it. So while the program requires a fair commitment of time, he enjoys it!

The progress with my daughter, Kaela, has been incredible! Though tough at first, she has a lot more self-confidence in math. As with all things, it is helping her in other activities as she comes to understand that hard work pays off!
